Unlike earthenware, which has a warm, handcrafted feel, or porcelain, which is almost non-absorbent, Tougetsugama's tableware is made from semi-porcelain, a blend of earthenware and porcelain clays.
Because it contains porcelain clay, it requires no special care and can be used in microwaves and dishwashers.
